The village of Bir, situated at an elevation of 1,400 meters in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, is renowned worldwide as a premier paragliding destination. The take-off point at Billing, located 14 kilometers up a winding road and 1,000 meters higher, hosts major competitive events each year, including rounds of the Paragliding World Cup, most recently in 2015. Bir is also a significant hub for the Tibetan exile community. The lower part of the village is known as the Tibetan Colony, featuring several Buddhist monasteries and institutes.
